Senior Center Joins City

“When we began this process several years ago, it was hard to imagine this day would ever come. What this means for the future of our Belgrade senior community is exciting and very timely due to the increased growth we are seeing on a regular basis. Joining forces with the city helps ensure that our senior population will be well cared for as we move into the future.  It is very exciting!”

Lisa Beedy

Senior Center Manager

“It was four years ago that I started pushing the City Council to give more support to the Senior Center, Two years ago, during Covid, the Council subsidized the Center with $12,000 one year and $30,000 the next year. They also began discussing a plan to have the Senior Center come under the City’s umbrella, although it would have required a Mill levy. The Senior Center has always kept up with building maintenance, etc. as well as possible, even though it was sometimes a struggle to come up with adequate funding.  When we hired Neil Cardwell as City Manager, he came up with the idea of letting the Senior Center continue with grant writing etc., making it possible for the City to bring it in and provide things like property maintenance and employee benefits without the need for a mill levy. I want to commend Neil for that. I also want to commend the City Council for taking on this project – it’s a great thing for the City and a great thing for the Senior Center.”

Brad Cooper

Former City Councilmember

“There has been so much hard work to make this happen. Giving our Senior Center stability to provide the essential services they support is crucial to our community. I’m honored to have been a part of this great accomplishment.”

Mike Meis

Deputy Mayor

Belgrade City Council Member

Ward 1

“We have been working on this for 6 years and at times it seemed that we had been put on the back burner. Seeing this become a reality stabilizes our finances and keeps us from having to do so many fundraisers and “bugging” people for financial support every time they turn around. It is both a relief and a pleasure working with the City Council, City Manager and City Mayor.”
